of

TX-LA Gulf Coast Synod

Women of the ELCA

on

Saturday, September 13, 2008

at

Covenant Lutheran Church

 3785 Barker-Cypress Rd., Houston, TX

Theme: Washed in the Water

Bible Verse: Galatians 3:27

All who have been united with Christ in baptism have been made like him.

Register now to attend this action-packed one-day synodical women’s convention. We’ll follow the “Come to the Waters” theme from the Triennial Convention with “Washed in the Water” and explore living in our Baptism. Look for the registration form in this Scroll. Registration fee is only $45 and includes all materials, lunch, and snacks.

Our keynote speaker, Pastor Kerry Nelson of Covenant Lutheran Church, will be leading us through a time to celebrate the circle of life into which we were born and baptized. Family circles, faith circles, friendship circles and the way we all feel like we are running in circles just trying to keep up! These circles mark our lives. Bring purpose into our lives. Draw forth from us the deep resource of strength that is God’s gift to women. But what lies at the heart of our circles? And how is it, in a new day, in a life full of new and not-so-new pressures, do we live without spinning out of control? And how do we grow our circles to capture the spirit and the presence of the younger women in our faith families? This is the circle Pastor Nelson will walk with us – to encourage, inspire and challenge us as we prepare to return to the familiar circles of our lives.

Workshops being offered for our enrichment, of which you may choose three to attend, are:

Country Store craft and food items are needed. We ask each unit to bring about ten items so we will have a good selection for sale. Proceeds from the Country Store are designated for the Convention Fund.

Each Cluster is asked to donate one item for the Silent Auction, maybe a basket of items unique to your area. We’re hoping for something from Blue Bell from the Brazos Cluster. If a craft item would be good for the Silent Auction, we may place it there. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will be presented to Lutherhill, “A Place for All People.”

Child Care is planned at no charge. You need to mark the line on the registration form to reserve a spot.

For those interested in coming on Friday evening, a block of rooms has been set aside at Fairfield Inn, 15111 Katy Freeway. You will need to make your own reservation by calling 281-646-0056 and asking for the Lutheran Women’s Convention block of rooms. Talk with Jonna if available. Rates are $70 or $80 with two queen beds or one king. The $70 rate kicks in if we use at least ten rooms. They have an indoor pool and hot tub. Friday evening a get-together will be held at the hotel, registration for the convention will be open, and you may give your country store and silent auction items to Cindy.

The deadline for the Convention Booklet is July 15. Send all info to Liz at elizabeth_curtice@yahoo.com. She will need reports from all Clusters, vitas from all who have their name on the ballot, and lots more.

See you at the convention!
